Normally I'm the one that is getting my dad turned on to all the latest, greatest fun gadgets and technology. Sometimes it's a program on the computer, or a cable channel, a digital camera (he loved mine so much he bought the exact same one) or something as simple and wonderful as the incredibly clean water from a Pur Water pitcher.
This time it was his turn to show me something I'm now completely hooked on.
I went to his house this weekend, alone, for some much needed father/daughter time without the kiddo or the hubby to just talk about things and spend time together after Mom. It was wonderful time together and very healing for both of us.
I noticed this beautiful music coming from his computer and asked him about it. "Oh that's Pandora.com," he said.
"What the heck is Pandora.com?" I asked, "isn't that a box with very bad things in it?"
"Oh no come check it out."
So Pandora.com is an online radio station of sorts where you register for an account. There are no preset stations, you get a clean slate. You type in a song you like, an artist or album and it then goes out and fetches music that is similar to your choice in genre, beat, tone and tempo changes, music style etc...and plays these songs and artists
WITHOUT ADDS OR INTERRUPTIONS.
How excellent.
Well it gets better. For each song it plays you can give it a thumbs up to let it know you like that song in which it remembers your preference. If you don't like a song you give it a thumbs down and it again will learn and not play it anymore. Furthermore it learns as you provide your preference and over time it'll only play the songs, artists and music you like.
You can bookmark songs or entire artists in which it'll put these on your profile where you can play them anytime you like and even buy them directly from iTunes or Media Player.
I'm so hooked. Not only does it play songs from my favorite artists but is introducing me to artists I've never heard of but are just my style.
The best part of all
IT'S TOTALLY FREE!!!!!!
Oh and if you have a phone with internet access and are on the AT&T or Sprint network you can listen on your phone. The iPhone App is fantastic and I can sign right into my account and keep programming my preferences as I go.
So go check it out, open Pandora.com and have fun!
